Paediatric Orthopaedics deals with children’s orthopedic problems observed at birth or during the growth of the child.
Some of the problems that manifest at birth are- clubfoot (CTEV), (Foot turned inwards), valgus foot (foot turned outwards), dislocation of the hip, dislocation of the Knee, Torticollis (neck turned to one side), obstetrical brachial plexus palsy.
Some problems encountered during the growth of a child are – Flat feet, Intoe gait, Genu varus (bow legs), Genu valgus (knock knees), and Fractures. The timing of treatment in children is most important as most of these conditions can be treated by simple plasters and minor surgery.
Also, in the case of Cerebral palsy – a condition in which children find it difficult to walk, they can be helped by botox therapy and surgery.
